Found this place on Saturday 11th Jan in the evening. First of all the lady on the other end of the phone when I rang up was so friendly. This was a bonus from the word go. Sounded very welcoming. Meal was gorgeous. We had the sirloin steak and deluxe burger all of which were home cooked and generous portion size. Desserts were lovely as well. We had our cockapoo with us. He loved it. Was given a bowl of water. We were sat by the log fire which was just lovely and added to the atmosphere. Not too busy either but as we were leaving around 8.30pm it started to get a bit busier. The young man and lady serving us were really nice. I asked how the pub got its name and the lady took the time to tell me the story of how it got its name. My husband went to the bar and also commented on how friendly the lady behind the bar was too. Would definitely recommend this lovely place and we would definitely return. Thankyou

Dont often do reviews but I loved this wee place so feel I owe them one! Stopped here after buying a dodgy Volvo as me and my friend hadn't eaten lunch. When we arrived the manager had a laugh talking about how she saw me pull in and about her volvo needing work. We sat for a drink and asked whether they'd recommend us waiting till food service started to which she replied, they eat the food themselves and there is nothing on the menu they don't like. I could tell she was being honest. I ordered the Steak Pie, my friend ordered the Chicken Burger and we were both amazed. The steak pie was delicious and so was the mash! I don't usually eat the vegetables that come with food, but they were cooked perfectly with beautiful presentation and dipping them in the lovely gravy made me feel like maybe I should eat veg more often! The staff were super friendly throughout our dinner and we decided to try squeeze in some dessert. I got Belgian Chocolate and Grand Marnier pudding which was absolute heaven and my mate got the Sticky Toffee pudding, which I tasted the sauce of, whilst he was at the bathroom. Made me wish I had ordered both! After emptying our plates yet again we were stuffed yet absolutely delighted. Could not recommend a place more. One of the best places I've been to. The staff were delightful and had friendly banter, the food was amazing and well priced and the atmosphere of the place was just lovely. Will be back again, hopefully when my volvo is less dodgy!

Cannot commend The Near Boot staff and management enough! The carvery was delicious and the desserts were to die for! The wine selection was superb, they are dog friendly, the place was immaculately clean! Such a fantastic find especially for almost central Carlisle! It is so good to see a proper thriving pub with great food and excellent staff. 5*!

First time dining here today, and it won't be the last ! The pub is much larger than I expected and is very nicely decorated with a lovely roaring fire on a very cold day . The staff were very welcoming and efficient, the food was excellent with a very varied menu,my daughter said the steak pie was the best she had tasted! I took a taste too...and yes it was exceedingly good!!!
I look forward to visiting again.

The first thing I noticed was that it was Animal friendly.
The Starter Menu had a good selection, but the prices were just slightly high, but that said the standard of the food is high across the board.
The Main Menu prices are high, but again the food is well presented, and standards are high.
To suit all individuals, there is a lunch menu, where all selections are under a tenner.
Draught Beer prices range from £6- £7 per pint.
The service was quick and efficient, though to be fair it was quiet when we were there.
The staff and owners were friendly, and were kind to children and animals.
Also there was a good car park outside.
It is wheelchair accessible, the entrance is flat, but you will need someone to hold the doors open.
